In 1996 a group of prominent British and Egyptian
business executives recognized this need and,
in particular, wanted to encourage trade with
Britain. The UK export capability was well established
but Egypt, in particular, needed to develop its
export industry in order to compete in the new
"World Order". The advent of new WTO regulations
and the prospect of an association agreement with
Europe also gave greater encouragement to Egypt
to improve its world trade. Britain, as one of
the major investors in the country, and given
the historical relationship between the two countries,
was clearly an obvious trade partner, and the
need for a business forum was essential. 1996
became an important year for the UK and Egypt
as the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA)
was formed. |
